Sílvia Osuna awarded ERC Starting Grant

Dr. Sílvia Osuna has been awarded a ‘ERC Starting Grant’ (ERC-StG-2015-679001) grant for the project ‘Network Models for the Computational Design of Proficient Enzymes’.

NetMoDEzyme project aims to develop a new computational protocol based on network models for the routine design of enzymes for any target reaction of pharmaceutical interest. The ability of routinely designing enzymes for any target process will have large socio-economic impacts, as the production costs of many drugs will be reduced and will allow industries to use environmentally friendly alternatives.

Worth up to 1.5M € per grant, ‘ERC-StG’ funding helps young researchers to finally establish a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe. This top-up funding targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders, and supports the creation of excellent new research teams.

This is the third ERC Starting Grant obtained by IQCC, which adds to those received by Prof. Miquel Costas, and Prof. Xavi Ribas.
