Following today’s Nobel ceremony from Stockholm, it is our honor to announce the first two speakers of the Girona Seminar 2018, which will take place in Girona from April 4-6, 2018.
Prof. Larry Que (Minnesota) has been a regular collaborator, mentor and supervisor of several members of the IQCC. He has published ca. 500 papers in books and top journals such as Science, Nature Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, Inorganic Chemistry, and Biochemistry. He is Editor of the Journal of Biological Inorganic Chemistry, and heavily involved in other activities of the Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry. He has won many awards among which the 2017 American Chemical Society Award in Inorganic Chemistry.
Prof. Ben Feringa (Groningen) is Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2016), and has published apart from his work on nanocars many papers on high-valent Fe(IV)-oxo complexes. He has published ca. 800 papers in high-level journals, received many awards, is member of many advisory committees and was recently appointed “Commander in the order of the Dutch Lion”. He has supervised more than 100 PhD theses, and his research group was awarded recently the Medal of Honour by the city of Groningen. In a private meeting with the director of the IQCC he admitted that on a trip to China just after having received the news of the Nobel Prize, the first time the Chinese students wanted to take a #selfie with him he was surprised. But by now, he has grown accustomed to it, especially since he loves to interact with (old) students.
We are happy to have these first two names of a gender-balanced line up of Plenary and Keynote Speakers for the Girona Seminar 2018. Save the date (April 4-6, 2018)!
