New Full Professor Prof. Jordi Mestres

In the last weeks, a visiting professor of the Institut de Químicia Computacional i Catàlisi (IQCC) was promoted to part-time Full professor at the University of Girona: Prof. Jordi Mestres.

Jordi Mestres holds a PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of Girona. After a post-doctoral stay at Pharmacia&Upjohn (Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA), in 1997 he joined the Molecular Design & Informatics department at N.V. Organon (Oss, The Netherlands) and in 2000 he was appointed Head of Computational Medicinal Chemistry at Organon Laboratories (Newhouse, Scotland, UK). Between 2003 and 2023, he was Principal Investigator at the IMIM Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute and Associate Professor at the University Pompeu Fabra, in Barcelona. Since 2023, he has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Girona. He acts also as Research Director of Chemotargets, a company that he founded in 2006.

In 2006, he was awarded with the Hansch Award from the QSAR, Chemoinformatics and Modeling Society and, in 2007, with the Knowledge Transfer Award from the University Pompeu Fabra. In 2018, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is the author of 177 publications, 10 patents among them.
