The Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA) has selected Marc Garcia-Borràs as a new ICREA Research Professor. He will take up the position on 1 March 2026. This prestigious appointment provides a permanent research position and will allow him to devote his time fully to research activities.
ICREA Research Professor appointments are granted to researchers with outstanding international trajectories and are aimed at fostering scientific leadership within the Catalan research system. These permanent positions provide the necessary stability and autonomy to develop ambitious, long-term research programmes, while contributing to the strategic consolidation and international visibility of host institutions.
With this appointment, the Institut de Química Computacional i Catàlisi (IQCC) further strengthens its research excellence, now counting three ICREA Research Professors, contributing to a strong critical mass in computational chemistry and catalysis.
Marc Garcia-Borràs (Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 1988) has received several recognitions for his scientific achievements in recent years, including an ERC Consolidator Grant (BioReInt project, 2025), the “Emerging Scientific Talent 2025” Award from the Societat Catalana de Química, the Marcial Moreno-Mañas Award 2023 from the Catalan Section of the Spanish Royal Chemical Society (RSEQ), the Early Career Researcher RSEQ–Lilly Award 2024, and the ACS OpenEye/Cadence Outstanding Junior Faculty Award – Spring 2025 from the ACS Division of Computers in Chemistry. He was also a finalist for the European Young Chemist Award (EYCA) at the Early Career Researcher level (EuChemS, 2020) and received the UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Postdoctoral Research Award in 2018.
