ICREA Research Professor Marcel Swart has recently been selected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). This scientific society, founded in 1980, aims to promote the understanding and advancement of the chemical sciences. Although the vast majority of more than 50,000 members of the association are British, this is also open to researchers from around the world. Each quarter the society awards the title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry to about 100 chemists that have stood out for their contributions to the advancement of the chemical sciences.
Among the main activities of the Royal Society of Chemistry there is research, publication of magazines, books and scientific databases, in addition to organizing and hosting conferences and seminars. The RSC also awards grants each year, including awards for excellence in any area of chemistry in specialty areas, or to achieve unique goals in the career of a chemical.
Marcel Swart is theoretical and computational chemist and works in the field of (bio)inorganic chemistry and biomedicine. He is ICREA Research Professor and currently serves as director of the Institut de Química Computacional i Catàlisi.
