Cover JACS on Mechanism for Aromatic Nitration Catalyzed by Cytochrome P450 Enzymes from Rufomycin Biosynthesis
The JACS journal features on its front cover of the October 2026 issue the research article “Mechanism for Aromatic Nitration Catalyzed by Cytochrome P450 Enzymes from Rufomycin Biosynthesis” by Dr. Ferran Feixas and Prof. Marc Garcia-Borràs in collaboration with Prof. Max J. Cryle (Monash University). The cytochrome P450 enzyme RufO catalyzes selective tyrosine nitration of a pentapeptide substrate. Structural, biochemical, and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics analyses implicate the importance of the substrate histidine residue in this transformation which is later cleaved before 3-NO2-Tyr is incorporated into the cyclic peptide antibiotic rufomycin.
