Reaching Girona

There are two airports that the participants can use for coming to Girona.

Girona airport (GRO): Aeroport de Girona
Barcelona airport (BCN): Aeroport del Prat de Llobregat

The most convenient is Girona airport because of the closer distance, but there may be less flights to it from the different places in and outside Europe. Check possible flights with SkyScanner.
The connection between BCN airport and Girona city may take 2-4 hours depending on the transport(s) taken.

Bus from GRO airport

There is almost every hour a direct bus from Girona Airport to Girona Station, which costs ca. 2.75 €. See the following website for more details.

Bus from BCN airport

Four times a day there is a direct bus from BCN Airport to Girona Station, which takes ca. 2 hours and 30 minutes and costs about 19 € for a one-way ticket.
Leaving from T1 (bus-platform (anden) 10-11-12) at: 10.00, 11.30, 14.40, 16.40.
Leaving from T2 (bus-platform (anden) 23) at: 10.15, 11.45, 14.45, 16.55.
Arriving at Girona at ca.: 12.30, 13.40, 16.50, 19.00.

Return times from Girona station are: 06.45, 08.45, 12.00, 15.30, 18.30.
Arriving at BCN T1 at ca.: 08.45, 11.00, 14.15, 17.25, 20.30 (at T2 10 min. earlier).

Fast Train from BCN Sants station

The railway company has a special deal for train tickets for coming to the Girona Seminar.
See this document for more information on how you can get discount on the train tickets at the Renfe website.

Steps to follow:

Step 1: Select traject and day, e.g. Barcelona - Girona, 17/4/2016, and click on BUY [screenshot]
Step 2: Select hour for journey, and click on the price (11.25 € in the screenshot)[screenshot]
Step 3: Introduce discount code, in 3 steps.
a) Click on the triangle as indicated in [screenshot]
b) Select "Congresos/Eventos" in the pulldown menu as indicated in [screenshot-1] and [screenshot-2]
c) Introduce the "Authorization number" as indicated in [screenshot]
And then continue with the same for the return ticket and proceed to the payment

UPDATE: New metro line opened
Starting on Feb. 12, there will be a new metro line L9 that connects BCN Airport (T1 and T2) with the city metro lines.

Estimated total time between T1 and Sants Station: 45-60 min
L9, starting from T1, passing through T2, direction Zona Universitaria
Get off at Collblanc (after ca. 30 min)
Connecting metro line L5 (direction Vall d'Hebron) to Sants Train station (second stop)
Frequency L9: every 5-10 minutes (estimated)
Approximate time needed:
L9 (T1-Collblanc) 30 min.
L5 (Collblanc-Sants Train station) 3 min.
Price: 4.50 € for traject from/to Airport

UPDATE: New metro line opened

The regular slow train connection from Airport BCN leaves from BCN Terminal 2 (T2), see below.
If no bus is available, it is recommended to take a taxi (or urban bus) to BCN Sants train station, and take a fast train from there (37 minutes BCN Sants to Girona). Tickets for fast trains can be bought beforehand (conference discount codes will be available in February 2016) through the Renfe website.

UPDATE: Discount on train tickets

Alternatively, there is a train connection from BCN Airport to Girona Station involving two lines.
First: Take the free Transit bus from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 (15 min.).
Second: Walk to train station (10-15 min.) from within Terminal 2B (upstairs).
Third: Buy directly a ticket to Girona at the counter (not available on the machines probably).
Fourth: Every half an hour (xx.08 and xx.38) a train leaves.
Fifth: Get off at Passeig de Gracia (one stop AFTER Barcelona Sants)
Sixth: Depending on the hour you'll have to wait between 20 and 50 minutes, then take the direct train to Girona.
