Dr. Ouissam El Bakouri received his PhD in 2017 from the University of Girona, where he studied electronic structure, chemical bonding, and electron delocalization in organic and inorganic systems under the supervision of Prof. Miquel Solà, Prof. Jordi Poater, and Dr. Ferran Feixas. After his PhD, he moved to Uppsala University (Sweden) to work on excited-state aromaticity in the group of Prof. Henrik Ottosson, and later returned to the IQCC as a Beatriu de Pinós fellow in Prof. Lluís Blancafort‘s group.
In March 2026, he started a new position at the IQCC as a Fundación ONCE postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Albert Poater‘s and Prof. Miquel Solà‘s group. His current research focuses on accelerating the discovery of sustainable macrocyclic catalysts by integrating Machine Learning and advanced quantum-chemical simulations.
